Where is Ashton Kutcher? ABDC Week 5 got punk’d!

Okay, okay…I was wrong.

But actually, I wasn’t also…(haha, i am way too into myself about this show!) and I’ll explain that in a bit.

First thing I want to mention is that I thought it was a very cool and respectful move for Supreme Soul to wear the Philly hats to show their love to the Phresh Select crew.

Of course, Philly residents will probably see it as some sort of diss, because Philly is always down on itself, but that’s their own mistake.

  On to the show…

Here’s where the Ashton Kutcher thing comes in.  America, are you serious???  I mean really, A.S.I.I.D. and SuperCrew didn’t get enough votes to be in the top 4?  I actually was waiting for Ashton to come out and let everyone in on the joke, and it’s evident as to why after watching the performances tonight.  I realize that sometimes you have to be in the bottom to bring out the best in your crew (ain’t that right Shane?) but tonight’s performances by the bottom 3 crews FAR outshined the top 3.   Here’s why the top 3 weren’t all that (and why I wasn’t actually wrong):

  • Boogie Bots - Made it in the top 3 even after turning in an “ok” performance last week and being less than stellar more often than not.  This week was actually their 2nd best (next to the video game themed one) and they STILL got dissed a little by the judges…
Not their best, but not their worst...

Not their best, but not their worst...

  • Supreme Soul - If you sit again and actually watch, they did have some clever stuff going on, but there were a lot of parts where the choreography was off.  They were better than last week, but still aren’t close to what they were made out to be in my opinion.

Tell me these guys were not off...I dare you.

Tell me these guys were not off...I dare you.

  • Fanny Pak - All I can really say is that this week they didn’t give me anything to remember.  They were pretty tight as a crew, and I think they definitely deserved to be in the top group, but they are almost better as an underdog.

Need a kick in the fanny this week

Need a kick in the fanny this week

Now for the really disappointing part…the bottom 3.  They say that the cream always rises to the top, and tonight it did, but unfortunately, one crew had to go home.

  • SoReal Cru - They were just flat out SEXY!  Everything was on for them tonight, and in the lame-ass words of Lil’ Mama they “turnt it out” and they “kilt it” and they “did y’all thing” too.  This crew really reminds me of Kaba Modern, but they don’t balance as well because of the ratio of guys to girls being off.
I hope America, and her parents, still love her!

I hope America, and her parents, still love her!

  • SuperCrew - Shane showed a video of Ronnie doing some moves and mentioned that only 4 or 5 people in the world can do those moves.  Well America, he’s right and that’s why Ronnie is THE NUMBER ONE B-BOY IN THE WORLD right now!  But tonight, it wasn’t JUST b-boying, it was dance choreography, and they freakin’ nailed it.

Original B-boys, and the winners so far in my eyes...

Original B-boys, and the winners so far in my eyes...

  • A.S.I.I.D. - It’s really sad that somebody had to go home tonight, but it’s even more sad that it was this crew, on this night.  A deaf guy nailing moves with a (somewhat transparent) blindfold on?  Come on…after last week there is no way they should have been here in the first place, and especially based on their overall body of work and judges praise throughout.  These kids danced their asses off and should be extremely proud they made it this far, especially when you add that they essentially got robbed, just like Live in Color and Kaba Modern.

We love you too Joey...thanks for all the inspiration!

We love you too Joey...thanks for all the inspiration!

And this brings me to what is probably going to be talked about on all the messageboards and blogs about this show:  Is America’s vote REALLY what decides things?  It’s hard to believe that ASIID got all that support 4 weeks in a row, had a knockout performance last week and then gets sent to the bottom 2?  And SuperCrew, who has OWNED this show has to battle in the bottom just to continue on?  One thing is for sure, if MTV is bullshitting about the voting, at least they are creating some drama.  The problem is, they are wrecking their show because of it.  I’ll still watch of course, because I love the dancing and I support the dancers breakin’ their necks out there to win, but if MTV ain’t involved, then America, you need to get with the program.

Next week:  Boogie Bots goes home, or else I better see Ashton…

Theyll need to look to the sky for help if they want to move on next week...

They'll need to look to the sky for help if they want to move on next week...

PhotoHunt - July 12

Bridge supports taken at about 15mph at the intersection of 1604 & 281 in San Antonio.  I was the driver, and yes, I took the picture…it’s not as easy as it sounds, hence the bit of outside mirror in the right edge.  I actually like how the angle turned out, as it gives it a bit of a twist…

Jabbawockeez vs. Supreme Soul: The Truth?

Okay.  Someone on another page asked about this, so here’s what i know.

From what I can tell, there is a lot of stuff on the messageboards all over the place regarding the truth about what happened on the first episode of America’s Best Dance Crew 2 when Shane asked Supreme Soul if they beat Jabbawockeez in a battle.  I’ve done a bit of research, and (DISCLAIMER)though I was not there and don’t know every detail, this is what I can tell so far:

In the first episode, Shane mentioned that SS battled Jabbawockeez and asked SS who won the battle.  I think it was Bionic (spiky haired asian guy) who had the mic and didn’t really want to say anything except basically that both crews danced hard, yadda yadda.  Shane then put them on the spot and tall white dude (Pharside?) stepped up and said “We won”.  Shane then went on to lecture them about how “if you won, you won, yo!” as he always does.

HOWEVER…the apparent battle between these crews in question was at “BodyRock 2006″ in California.  The problem is, that the battle actually contained members of several different crews, including Jabbawockeez (Kevin and Gary, r.i.p.), Full Force Las Vegas (Ronnie of SuperCrew), Boogie Monstaz (?), and a crew called “Soul Sector”.  Soul Sector is who Supreme Soul used to be, hence the SS on the clothing.  The BIG problem though, is that if you watch the video, the only person in Supreme Soul that reps Soul Sector during Bodyrock 2006 is Bionic (as far as i can tell by their names that MTV lists and that are called out in the Youtube video).  Essentially, this battle was the “SoCal Allstars” vs. the “NorCal Allstars”, and NOT Supreme Soul vs. Jabbawockeez.

Here are the 2 videos, see my commentary at the bottom…

If you notice at the very end of part 2, the MC asks the crowd to give it up for the SoCal crew (Jabba, FFLV, etc) and they give it up big, then the video gets cut out as he makes a throat-slashing gesture.  I have yet to find a video of it that keeps going to show if they asked for crowd support of the NorCal Crew, which leads me to speculate that A) a SoCal “bias” was in effect with whoever did the recordings and the MC may have been part of it, or that B) the MC decided that the whole crowd was supporting the SoCal crew and the NC crew was going to lose anyway.

Of course, either way you look at it, here is the breakdown…Shane Sparks was trying to create some drama.  In doing so, the only O.G. member of Supreme Soul that repped “Soul Sector” at Bodyrock 2006 tried to downplay it, and tall dude stepped up when he shouldn’t have.  One of the biggest codes of B-boying is R-E-S-P-E-C-T, and Bionic was trying to show that, but tall dude jacked it up.  What’s really crazy though, is that it looks as though the Jabbawockeez true fans are showing respect to the other crews, as Supreme Soul had a killer performance in Week 3, but still got into the bottom 2 for Week 4.

Special Note:  Pay attention at about the 1:25 mark of Part 2 above.  Kevin from Jabbawockeez tears the freakin’ house down with some sick ass moves!

Also, here is another video of “soul sector” on youtube.  I think if you watch the choreographed parts especially, you should be able to see that even the Jabbawockeez worst performance of last season would tear these guys up…

America’s Best Dance Crew Week 4

Okay, okay, so I wasn’t 100% accurate on the bottom 2…but once again, I have to give myself a pat on the back and show you how right I am. Here was my prediction last week:

Next week is going to be a REALLY tough elimination. I’ve made predictions so far, and it’s been easy to this point. The difficult part is the “popularity contest” of it all…even still, my gut is telling me that based on the dancing, Phresh Select will once again battle it out, this time with ASIID or Fanny Pak. However, this time I don’t think they’ll be able to cut it…the Selection won’t be so Phresh for them. Sorry Philly, but even with Rocky Balboa, PS couldn’t fight their way out of this one!

The crazy thing is, even though Shane Sparks somehow called it their best performance, Supreme Soul did not seem like a crew that wanted it that badly. Their performance did not live up to my expectations, and my wife said that before I did! Their performance last week was sick, this week, a crew like Jabbawockeez or Kaba Modern would have eaten them for lunch, regurgitated them, and then made a smoothie out of them. (Blecch!) Amazingly though, there are reasons for everything. If you look at it this way, Supreme Soul HAD to be in the bottom 2, because the judges needed someone to knock out Phresh Select. The same way PS had to be in the bottom 2 last week to knock out Xtreme Dumb Dance Force. These things happening makes me wonder about the “voting” going on…

So on to what this show was REALLY ALL ABOUT - Fanny Pak!!! Wow, this episode solidified the fact that these guys are SERIOUS contenders to upset some of the favorites. This weeks performance was incredible from start to finish, and I smile and shake my head more and more every week when they finish. They are fun to watch and you can tell they are wearing Dr. Scholl’s…they are GELLIN’!

80s babies!

80's babies!

The other team this week that killed it was A.S.I.I.D.

Deaf-initely not on drugs

Deaf-initely not on drugs

I haven’t really talked much about them in my posts because they haven’t done much to impress me, but they haven’t hurt themselves much on the show either. Tonight they blew me away. Joey’s cartwheel being a bit lame is all the bad news I can think of…

The hard part for me this week was that the 3 crews I have been most supportive of were just not that strong. SoReal Cru from Houston had the best performance of them, but SuperCrew and Boogie Bots were not all that strong. First of all, SoReal started strong and had some issues with the fast part. They looked like JC said, like they were thinking too much. Boogie Bots I think could have done a LOT more with the Lollipop theme, and they came out in plain old gray outfits and kind of laid an egg. SuperCrew looked completely dope tonight, but for the 3rd week in a row were told that they needed to “dance” more. Don’t get me wrong, they, to me, are still the frontrunners, but if they don’t Janet Jackson their butts off next week, they may dip, dip, dive instead of so-socialize.

Next weeks elimination will probably be the toughest, if I based it solely on my opinion of this week, Boogie Bots and Supreme Soul would battle it out. However, No, scratch that…I’m gonna go out on a limb, and put these 2 in the bottom next week. This time though, I’m going to put some faith in the cocky guys and say they come out MUCH stronger than this week, and Boogie Bots will have to “Walk it out” at the end. Yeah, I said it…what?

***oh, and Randy Jackson, if you are watching, ebonics is one thing okay, but for f***’s sake, tell Lil’ Mama she needs to learn that certain words just don’t make sense… “SPEEDED”??? seriously, she needs to have one of these in her mouth until you replace her:

Keep this in yo mouth!!!

Keep this in yo mouth!!!

Here’s a video interview of him when he was with the Wizards, in which you can kind of see why the spurs like not just him as a player, but as a guy too.  he seems like a Spurs “guy”:

Maggette a Warrior, Not a Spur

Here is the REAL reason that Corey Maggette is a Golden State Warrior and not a San Antonio Spur:

That number on a Spurs jersey just won’t fly in San Antonio!  Of course, the whole thing was jinxed by the following article that appeared on the Hoopsworld site:

No player has been more sought after or talked about this summer than Corey Maggette. Most of the teams who feel they have a legitimate shot at winning a title in the near future have talked about him being the missing piece that would put them over the top. The Orlando Magic were the most recent team to make a play, but teams like Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio have also been hot on his trail.

According to multiple reports this morning Maggette will, indeed, wind up in the Texas Triangle, and he could very well turn out to be the piece that gets his new team a championship. If all goes according to plan, Maggette will finally join the San Antonio Spurs, who were very much in love with him a couple of seasons ago when his last contract came up.

Maggette was not completely against returning to the Clippers, but behind closed doors it seems there was a mutual understanding that splitting the sheets was the best move. LA’s move to steal Baron Davis away from the Golden State Warriors was the final indicator that Maggette’s days in LA are finished.

For now, Spurs fans can start to think about Finals tickets once again . . .and get in line for your Corey Maggette jersey.

It won’t be #50.

And apparently, he likes the number so much, his deal is for a reported 5 years (there is a 5 in 50) and get this, $50 million!  Tell me that is a coincidence…

Anyway, the big question now is “where do the spurs go from here?”  Obviously, we have to find someone Maggette-like, because we need someone who can step in behind Manu (or in front if Manu comes off the bench) and play some serious minutes and give us double-digit points.  JR Smith, Josh Smith, James Posey and Roger Mason, Jr., I believe, are possible answers, but all would be a greater risk than someone like Maggette.

However, I think the big question that looms over the Spurs is not necessarily this issue, but in the next 2 years.  What in the hell are we going to do at the Power Forward spot?  There is obviously no replacing Tim Duncan with another player that caliber, but think about this:  When Tim retires, we’ll have a much older Manu, a much older (if not retired) Bowen, and not much else except youth and a well-seasoned Tony Parker.  It’s definitely going to get interesting folks…
